The inauguration of John Tyler as the tenth President of the United States took place in his bedroom on Thursday, April 6, 1841, in the wake of the death of President William Henry Harrison. The inauguration marked the commencement of the partial four-year term of John Tyler as President. It was the first time that a Presidential death had occasioned the swearing-in of a new President. The swearing-in was administered by Chief Judge of the local U.S. Circuit Court, William Cranch, at Brown's Hotel, at 6th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC (at the same intersection as the present site of the Newseum).
