Irregular Immigration
Illegal immigration developed as immigration policy became more rigid. In 2006, The French Ministry of the Interior estimated clandestine immigrants ("sans-papiers ") in France amounted to anywhere between 200.000 and 400.000, also expecting between 80.000 and 100.000 people to enter the country illegally each year.

Famous quotes containing the words irregular and/or immigration:
“I am one of those who hold that poetry is never so blithe as in a wanton and irregular subject.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
“The admission of Oriental immigrants who cannot be amalgamated with our people has been made the subject either of prohibitory clauses in our treaties and statutes or of strict administrative regulations secured by diplomatic negotiations. I sincerely hope that we may continue to minimize the evils likely to arise from such immigration without unnecessary friction and by mutual concessions between self-respecting governments.”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
