IK Oddevold - Background

Background

IK Oddevold was started as a neighborhood club called Karlsbergs IF in 1932. The name was eventually changed to IK Brage, but when it was discovered that the name was already in use by another team they changed their name to Blixtens IK, but soon settled on IK Oddevold. During the 1950s, IK Oddevold was initially unable to play at Rimnersvallen without the support of ship owner, Gustaf B. Thordarson, so they played at Oddevallen, which opened in 1951.

In 1996 "IKO" spent their only season in Allsvenskan, the top-flight league, and as of the end of the 2011 season, they are 47th on the all-time Allsvenskan table, which is essentially an all-time performance ranking for teams that have played in the Allsvenskan.

IK Oddevold hosts many youth activities. Good performance seems important to the club, which may help high school sports (soccer, handball, track and field, and swimming) in Uddevalla. Each summer, the club organizes the soccer tournament Oddebollen for young people.

IK Oddevold are affiliated to the Bohusläns Fotbollförbund. They currently play in Division 1 South (2011). They finished in first place in the lower league in 2010, after an exciting finale to the season when they pipped Karlstad BK to the promotion spot.

Famous quotes containing the word background:

... every experience in life enriches one’s background and should teach valuable lessons.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

I had many problems in my conduct of the office being contrasted with President Kennedy’s conduct in the office, with my manner of dealing with things and his manner, with my accent and his accent, with my background and his background. He was a great public hero, and anything I did that someone didn’t approve of, they would always feel that President Kennedy wouldn’t have done that.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
