In the spring of 2012 Humberside Fire and Rescue Service won a 3 year, multi-million pound private contract to provide 24-hour emergency cover to steel giant Tata Steel at its Scunthorpe site. The deal with Tata Steel means retained firefighters will be stationed on site at its North Lincolnshire plant.
On 1 January 2013 plans were submitted to Hull City Council expressing Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's intention to replace Clough Road fire station, to build a new £3.9 million facility on the same site. If plans are approved it is hoped the new station will be operational by 2018. A decision will be made in March 2013 by the Council's Planning Committee whether to approve or refuse the application.
