Horizon Records

Horizon Records was started as a folk and blues record label by Dave Hubert in 1960.

It was originally distributed by World Pacific Records. When Vee-Jay Records acquired World Pacific in 1963, it also took over the distribution of Horizon.

From 1974-1978 the label became a subsidiary imprint of A&M Records, primarily for issuing the music of jazz artists.

In 1979, before A&M folded Horizon the first time, the label struck gold with the debut releases of Brenda Russell and the Yellow Magic Orchestra. By 1980, the label disappeared.

In 1984, A&M went into a shaky distribution deal with Word Distribution by giving more powerful distribution for Word's labels like Myrrh, Word, and Exit. Horizon was reactivated with its 1979 artwork intact as a Christian label with The Imperials, while Myrrh artist Amy Grant was signed over to A&M. By 1987, Horizon had disappeared a second time.

Horizon's jazz catalog is now managed by Verve Records.

Famous quotes containing the words horizon and/or records:

In expanding the field of knowledge, we but increase the horizon of ignorance.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)

What a wonderful faculty is memory!—the most mysterious and inexplicable in the great riddle of life; that plastic tablet on which the Almighty registers with unerring fidelity the records of being, making it the depository of all our words, thoughts and deeds—this faithful witness against us for good or evil.
    Susanna Moodie (1803–1885)
