Honda Battle of The Bands - Participation

Participation

The fictitious BET Big Southern Classic from the 2002 film Drumline was similar to the HBOB.

The Honda Battle of the Bands selection process includes two components — the "Honda Battle of the Bands Celebration Tour" and the "Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase".

In Voting Level 1, one band is selected at-large:

a. Online Opinion Poll from the Honda Battle of the Bands Website – Band receiving the highest number of fan votes from the online poll.

In Voting Level 2, one school is selected from each of the four HBCU athletic conferences—the CIAA, the MEAC, the SIAC, and the SWAC—and one independent HBCU, are selected for a total of five bands. These bands are selected in a three-part process:

a. Online Opinion Poll at hondabattleofthebands.com -- 1/3 weight
b. Band Directors’ Votes -- 1/3 weight
c. Presidents’ Votes -- 1/3 weight

Note: Presidents and Band Directors are not permitted to vote for their own institutions.

In Voting Level 3, American Honda and Urban Sports & Entertainment Group selects the two bands based on:

a. Showmanship
b. Musicianship
c. Years of previous participation in the Celebration Tour

Once all the votes are tallied, a total of 8 bands are invited to perform their carefully choreographed, halftime time routines in front of 50,000+ fans.
