Reception
Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets won the 1992 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime book. The Associated Press called it "a true-crime classic". The Library Journal also highly recommended it, and Newsday described it as "one of the most engrossing police procedural mystery books ever written". In 2010, it was announced that Simon had been awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, sometimes called a "genius award."
