Hole in The Wall Gang (comedy)

The Hole in the Wall Gang is the name of a Northern Irish comedy group, who came to prominence in the mid 1990s with the popular satirical comedy Give My Head Peace.

The line up consists of Tim McGarry, Damon Quinn, Martin Reid and Michael McDowell, all of whom were born in 1964. They were originally known as the "Hole in the Wall Theatre Company", before adopting the name Hole in the Wall Gang when they moved to television.

In 1992 the group won a UK Sony award for Best Radio Comedy for their first radio series A Perforated Ulster. They then won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Regional Programme in 1996, for Two Ceasefires and a Wedding, the prelude to Give My Head Peace.

The success of Give My Head Peace led to a new sketch show in 2006 entitled Dry Your Eyes, two seasons of which aired on BBC One NI.

Famous quotes containing the words hole, wall and/or gang:

    Give a beggar a dime and he’ll bless you. Give him a dollar and he’ll curse you for witholding the rest of your fortune. Poverty is a bag with a hole at the bottom.

    The mountain stood there to be pointed at.
    Pasture ran up the side a little way,
    And then there was a wall of trees with trunks;
    After that only tops of trees, and cliffs
    Imperfectly concealed among the leaves.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    A general loathing of a gang or sect usually has some sound basis in instinct.
