Famous quotes containing the words early, kingdoms and/or century:

For with this desire of physical beauty mingled itself early the fear of death—the fear of death intensified by the desire of beauty.
Walter Pater 1839–1894, British writer, educator. originally published in Macmillan’s Magazine (Aug. 1878)

How will it be with kingdoms and with kings—
With those who shaped him to the thing he is—
When this dumb Terror shall rise to judge the world,
After the silence of the centuries?
    Edwin Markham (1852–1940)

Those who indulged in any or all of the other deadly sins could look down in righteous indignation on the lascivious and the gluttonous.... In the name of all lechers and boozers I most solemnly protest against the invidious distinction made to our prejudice.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
