2011–12 season, Part II
On 6 October 2011 Nikos Kostenoglou agreed on a one and a half year deal with AEK Athens.
The club performed better under Kostenoglou but was plagued by injuries, most notably Eiður Guðjohnsen's who was out for six months. Subsequently, youngsters such as Viktor Klonaridis, Mavroudis Bougaidis and Taxiarchis Fountas found their way into the club's starting eleven.
Despite the problems the club qualified for the Superleague Greece playoffs and conpeted for the Champions League qualification slot but lost it in the last fixture against Panathinaikos protesting for a wrongly disallowed goal scored by captain Nikos Liberopoulos.

Famous quotes containing the word part:
“And yet we constantly reclaim some part of that primal spontaneity through the youngest among us, not only through their sorrow and anger but simply through everyday discoveries, life unwrapped. To see a child touch the piano keys for the first time, to watch a small body slice through the surface of the water in a clean dive, is to experience the shock, not of the new, but of the familiar revisited as though it were strange and wonderful.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
