Historical Rankings Of Prime Ministers Of The United Kingdom
The Times constructed a poll for the first time of all British Prime Ministers in the lead up to the 2010 general election. Prior to this there were two polls in 1999 and 2000 which were done by BBC Radio 4 and the British Politics Group; both only consulted a relatively small number of experts. A wider reaching poll was conducted in 2004 by the University of Leeds and Ipsos MORI. All rankings involved only 20th-century prime ministers, with no coverage for the other 31 pre-20th-century Prime Ministers.

“Ones prime is elusive. You little girls, when you grow up, must be on the alert to recognize your prime at whatever time of your life it may occur. You must then live it to the full.”
—Muriel Spark (b. 1918)
“This was the Eastham famous of late years for its camp- meetings, held in a grove near by, to which thousands flock from all parts of the Bay. We conjectured that the reason for the perhaps unusual, if not unhealthful development of the religious sentiment here, was the fact that a large portion of the population are women whose husbands and sons are either abroad on the sea, or else drowned, and there is nobody but they and the ministers left behind.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“In the larger view the major forces of the depression now lie outside of the United States, and our recuperation has been retarded by the unwarranted degree of fear and apprehension created by these outside forces.”
—Herbert Hoover (18741964)
“Women, children, Tyroleans and preachers want to create a new kingdom of God, but the God of their kingdom looks like women, children, preachers, and Tyrolians.”
—Franz Grillparzer (17911872)
