Historic Ships in Baltimore

Historic Ships in Baltimore, created as a result of the merger of the USS Constellation Museum and the Baltimore Maritime Museum, is a maritime museum located in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland in the United States.

The museum's collection includes four historic museum ships and one lighthouse:

  • USS Constellation (1854), a sloop-of-war
  • USCGC Taney (WHEC-37), a Coast Guard cutter
  • USS Torsk (SS-423), a WWII-era submarine
  • Chesapeake, a lightship
  • Seven Foot Knoll Light, a screw-pile lighthouse

All are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The three ships are also National Historic Landmarks.

Historic Ships in Baltimore is an affiliate of the Living Classrooms Foundation.

Famous quotes containing the words historic, ships and/or baltimore:

If there is any period one would desire to be born in, is it not the age of Revolution; when the old and the new stand side by side, and admit of being compared; when the energies of all men are searched by fear and by hope; when the historic glories of the old can be compensated by the rich possibilities of the new era?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Give blue-eyed men their swivel chairs
    To whirl in tall buildings.
Allow them many ships at sea,
    And on land, soldiers
    And policemen.
    Arna Bontemps (1902–1973)

The treatment of the incident of the assault upon the sailors of the Baltimore is so conciliatory and friendly that I am of the opinion that there is a good prospect that the differences growing out of that serious affair can now be adjusted upon terms satisfactory to this Government by the usual methods and without special powers from Congress.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
