Hip Hop Music in The Pacific Northwest - Musical Style

Musical Style

Northwest hip hop music is a very diverse genre, owing to the high cultural diversity in this region, mixing elements from various genres of music to form a sound unique from its southern neighbor, West Coast hip hop. For many years the rap scene in this region existed mainly as an underground genre, but recently Northwest hip-hop has seen more and more mainstream acceptance, with artists such as the Blue Scholars, Macklemore, and Common Market, gaining nationwide attention.

Although hip-hop culture developed separately in the Seattle and Portland areas, as well as Spokane, Washington, Eastern Washington, and Vancouver, hip-hop music in these regions tends to share socially conscious and radio friendly characteristics.

Famous quotes containing the words musical and/or style:

Creative force, like a musical composer, goes on unweariedly repeating a simple air or theme, now high, now low, in solo, in chorus, ten thousand times reverberated, till it fills earth and heaven with the chant.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The history of all Magazines shows plainly that those which have attained celebrity were indebted for it to articles similar in natureto Berenice—although, I grant you, far superior in style and execution. I say similar in nature. You ask me in what does this nature consist? In the ludicrous heightened into the grotesque: the fearful coloured into the horrible: the witty exaggerated into the burlesque: the singular wrought out into the strange and mystical.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)
