Consolidation With Independence Blue Cross

On March 28, 2007, Highmark announced that it intended to consolidate with Independence Blue Cross of Philadelphia. The combination of these insurers would have created a new company with over 18,000 employees, with dual-headquarters in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The new company would have had an economic impact of over $4 billion throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Famous quotes containing the words independence, blue and/or cross:

    The subject of the novel is reality liberated from soul. The reader in complete independence presented with a structured process: let him evaluate it, not the author. The façade of the novel cannot be other than stone or steel, flashing electrically or dark, but silent.
    Alfred Döblin (1878–1957)

    Tom-tom, c’est moi. The blue guitar
    And I are one.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    Expecting me to grovel,
    she carefully covers both feet
    with the hem of her skirt.
    She pretends to hide
    a coming smile
    and won’t look straight at me.
    When I talk to her,
    she chats with her friend
    in cross tones.
    Even this slim girl’s rising anger
    delights me,
    let alone her deep love.
    Amaru (c. seventh century A.D.)
