High Peak Borough Council - Electoral Wards and Councillors

Electoral Wards and Councillors

Below is a list of all 43 serving councillors. Most were elected at the 2011 Elections, at which the Labour Party gained 12 seats to become the largest party on the council but were one short of an overall majority. Councillor Jean Todd was elected at the Buxton Central by-election in March 2012, after Councillor Phil Ashmore emigrated to the United States and resigned his seat. A number of councillors previously elected in 2007 did not stand in the 2011 election, including Andrew Bingham who was elected as Member of Parliament for High Peak in 2010.

Famous quotes containing the words electoral and/or wards:

Power is action; the electoral principle is discussion. No political action is possible when discussion is permanently established.
    HonorĂ© De Balzac (1799–1850)

Only by obedience to his genius; only by the freest activity in the way constitutional to him, does an angel seem to arise before a man, and lead him by the hand out of all the wards of the prison.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
