Football Chant

This song has been adopted by the supporters of football clubs such as Queens Park Rangers, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The song is played before matches on the loudspeaker system so that the fans can sing along to the chorus with the lyrics adapted to include a reference to their club (eg, 'Hi Ho Queens Park Rangers'. Famous quotes containing the words football and/or chant:

    ... in the minds of search committees there is the lingering question: Can she manage the football coach?
    Donna E. Shalala (b. 1941)

    Pan’s Syrinx was a girl indeed,
    Though now she’s turned into a reed;
    From that dear reed Pan’s pipe does come,
    A pipe that strikes Apollo dumb;
    Nor flute, nor lute, nor gittern can
    So chant it, as the pipe of Pan;
    John Lyly (1553–1606)
