The College From 1947 To Today

The Military College celebrated in 1947 the centenary of its greatest hour in Mexican history, and two years later, in 1949, the Congress of the Union formally conferred, in honor of the Corps of Cadets' participation in the Battle of Chapultepec a century past, the Heroic designation to it and the Naval Military Academy, the latter for its role in the United States occupation of Veracruz in 1914.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Heroic Military College (1820-1970), 1 oz silver coins were minted by the Central Bank and .40 stamps featuring 2 Military College Shakos were printed by the Government of Mexico, also commemorating the Golden jubilee of the final cavalry charge in the Americas by the cavalry cadets.

In 1976, the College's present campus in Tlalpan borough, Mexico City, was formally opened. Today, the academy is led by its commandant, Brigade General Sergio Alberto Martínez Castuera.

The school was used as a setting for Luis Miguel's 1989 music video "La Incondicional". In the video he plays an Air Force cadet. In a marching scene towards the end of the song one can see the "Por el Honor de Mexico" banner.

Perote, the second home of the Military College, has been dubbed by the Veracruz State Congress as The Cradle of the Military College since 2002.

From 2007, it accepts female cadets. The Corps is regiment-sized and has among its units a cavalry squadron and an artillery battery.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or today:

Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

At times it seems that the media have become the mainstream culture in children’s lives. Parents have become the alternative. Americans once expected parents to raise their children in accordance with the dominant cultural messages. Today they are expected to raise their children in opposition to it.
    Ellen Goodman (20th century)
