Henman Hill - Other Names

Other Names

Although "Henman Hill" remains the most widely used name for the area, the terrace's name tends to change depending on which British player is participating. During Greg Rusedski matches, the area was sometimes called Rusedski Ridge.

Since Henman's retirement in 2007, the area was colloquially renamed after current British number one, Andy Murray, with suggestions such as Murray Mound, Mount Murray, Murray Mountain and Murrayfield (in reference to the stadium in Edinburgh of the same name). The name "Henman Hill" is still used by the BBC and other media in reference to the area. In 2009, Tim Henman stated on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he had agreed with Andy Murray it is still "Henman Hill". Henman joked that " can have all those grand slams he's going to win but I'm keeping my hill".

In more recent years, tennis pundits have suggested referring to the hill as Robson Ridge or Heather Hill to coincide with matches played by Laura Robson and Heather Watson.

Famous quotes containing the word names:

We rarely quote nowadays to appeal to authority ... though we quote sometimes to display our sapience and erudition. Some authors we quote against. Some we quote not at all, offering them our scrupulous avoidance, and so make them part of our “white mythology.” Other authors we constantly invoke, chanting their names in cerebral rituals of propitiation or ancestor worship.
    Ihab Hassan (b. 1925)

“Well then, it’s Granny speaking: ‘I dunnow!
Mebbe I’m wrong to take it as I do.
There ain’t no names quite like the old ones, though,
Nor never will be to my way of thinking.
One mustn’t bear too hard on the newcomers,
But there’s a dite too many of them for comfort....’”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
