Head of State - Roles of Heads of State

Roles of Heads of State

Coronations are a major ceremony in monarchies: King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) is presented with regalia at his coronation in the Grand Palace in Bangkok on 5 May 1950 (left), and Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh in her coronation portrait on 2 June 1953.

Often depending on which constitutional category (above) a head of state belongs to, they may have some or all of the roles listed below, and various other ones.

Famous quotes containing the words roles, heads and/or state:

    It was always the work that was the gyroscope in my life. I don’t know who could have lived with me. As an architect you’re absolutely devoured. A woman’s cast in a lot of roles and a man isn’t. I couldn’t be an architect and be a wife and mother.
    Eleanore Kendall Pettersen (b. 1916)

    My hounds are bred out of the Spartan kind,
    So flewed, so sanded; and their heads are hung
    With ears that sweep away the morning dew;
    Crook-kneed, and dewlapped like Thessalian bulls;
    Slow in pursuit, but matched in mouth like bells,
    Each under each.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    Our object in the construction of the state is the greatest happiness of the whole, and not that of any one class.
    Plato (c. 427–347 B.C.)
