Hampden Academy - History

History

Hampden Academy was founded in 1803 as a private school and before that was a theological seminary. Currently, it serves as a public school that educates students from Hampden, Winterport, and Newburgh. Founded in 1803, the original Hampden Academy building, located at 1 Main Road North, is on the National Register of Historic Places. A new $51.6 million building, located behind the FieldTurf complex, was completed in 2012.

The front lawn of the 1 Main Road North location was the site of the Battle of Hampden during the War of 1812.

Dudley Nichols, U.S. screenwriter. Jean Renoir. Sorel (Philip Merivale)

What you don’t understand is that it is possible to be an atheist, it is possible not to know if God exists or why He should, and yet to believe that man does not live in a state of nature but in history, and that history as we know it now began with Christ, it was founded by Him on the Gospels.
    Boris Pasternak (1890–1960)
