Half Acre Beer

Half Acre Beer

Half Acre Beer Company was started in 2006 by Gabriel Magliaro. It opened as a Chicago USA-based beer business with its office located in Chicago's meat packing district. The recipes for the beers were developed in Chicago and the beer was then brewed at Sand Creek Brewery in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

Half Acre's first beer, Half Acre Lager, debuted the week of August 13th 2006. Half Acre's distributor is Chicago Beverage Systems. The beer is available in the Chicago metropolitan area.

In March 2009, Half Acre Beer began brewing in its Northcenter neighborhood location in Chicago and eventually opened a small store and tasting room as part of the brewery in the fall of 2009.

Beginning in 2007, the company purchased title sponsorship in local cycling club Half Acre Cycling. To minimize waste from brewing, the company challenged Engineering students from Northwestern University to find the best ways to reduce or reuse byproducts.

Half Acre holds a weekly "Half Acre Hunt," posted on its blog, where readers are challenged to use clues to find a Half Acre emblem hidden in the city. Hunt winners are rewarded with beer from the brewery.

Famous quotes containing the words acre and/or beer:

I would not have every man nor every part of a man cultivated, any more than I would have every acre of earth cultivated: part will be tillage, but the greater part will be meadow and forest, not only serving an immediate use, but preparing a mould against a distant future, by the annual decay of the vegetation which it supports.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    prohibition makes you
    want to cry
    into your beer and
    denies you the beer
    to cry into
    Don Marquis (1878–1937)
