GTE - Merger With Bell Atlantic

Merger With Bell Atlantic

Bell Atlantic merged with GTE on June 30, 2000, and named the new entity Verizon Communications. The GTE operating companies retained by Verizon are now collectively known as Verizon West division of Verizon (including east coast service territories). The remaining smaller operating companies were sold off or transferred into the remaining ones. Additional properties were sold off within a few years after the merger to CenturyTel, Alltel, and Hawaiian Telcom. On July 1, 2010, Verizon sold many former GTE properties to Frontier Communications. As of 2012 the GTE logo/trademark is still maintained on the sitemap page of Verizon.com.

Famous quotes containing the words bell and/or atlantic:

I was allowed to ring the bell for five minutes until everyone was in assembly. It was the beginning of power.
    Jeffrey Archer (b. 1940)

She had exactly the German way: whatever was in her mind to be delivered, whether a mere remark, or a sermon, or a cyclopedia, or the history of a war, she would get it into a single sentence or die. Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of the Atlantic with his verb in his mouth.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
