History
GSAT series of satellites is a bunch of geo-stationary satellites developed by ISRO with an objective to make India self-reliant in broadcasting services. GSAT-1 was the first candidate lifted to fulfill the same in 2001 and uptill now 12 GSAT satellites have been lifted in space so far. The repertoire of 12 GSAT satellites provide access to 167 transponders while 95 transponders are leased out to provide services to the broadcasters.
