Great Range

The Great Range is a mountain range in the Adirondack Mountains, near Keene Valley, New York, USA. It rises in the heart of the High Peaks region between Ausable Lakes to the southeast and the Johns Brook Valley to the northwest.

The range is approximately twelve miles long and includes seven of the forty-six High Peaks. They are, along the main ridge from northeast to southwest, Lower Wolfjaw, Upper Wolfjaw, Armstrong, Gothics, Saddleback, Basin, Haystack.

Sawteeth is a spur of Gothics, Marcy is often associated with the great range but it is not an "historical" part of Great Range. Other peaks have sometimes been associated with the great range but other peaks don't meet the criteria of being in a "range".

Famous quotes containing the word range:

[F]or as Socrates says that a wise man is a citizen of the world, so I thought that a wise woman was equally at liberty to range through every station or degree of men, to fix her choice wherever she pleased.
    Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)
