Golden Rule Insurance Company

Golden Rule Insurance Company is the underwriter and administrator of individual and family health insurance plans marketed under UnitedHealthOne. It is a UnitedHealthcare company based in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A., and has offered insurance to individuals and families for more than 65 years. It offers a type of health insurance known as a health savings account (HSA), and was closely involved in the political discussions that led to the enactment of legislation that offered tax incentives to consumers who set up health savings accounts, in addition to funding conservative politicians such as Newt Gingrich to fight broader reform. In April 2007, Golden Rule launched HSAcenter.com (http://www.hsacenter.com/), a website that offers general, comprehensive information about HSAs so that consumers can better educate themselves about health savings accounts and how they work. Its political action committee has raised substantial funds for Republican politicians who support health savings accounts.

Golden Rule became a UnitedHealthcare company in 2003. UnitedHealthcare’s individual line of business, which includes Golden Rule, PacifiCare, American Medical Security (AMS), MAMSI, Oxford Health Plans and UnitedHealthcare administered by Golden Rule, currently offers PPO health insurance and HMO products to individuals and families in 40 states and the District of Columbia.

In the 1980s, the company sued the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the Illinois Department of Insurance, claiming that the ETS examination for Illinois insurance agents discriminated against members of minority groups. The parties reached a settlement.

Famous quotes containing the words golden rule, golden, rule, insurance and/or company:

If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Fair Hope! our earlier Heaven! by thee
Young Time is taster to Eternity.
The generous wine with age grows strong, not sour,
Nor need we kill thy fruit to smell thy flower.
Thy golden head never hangs down
Till in the lap of Love’s full noon
It falls and dies: Oh no, it melts away
As doth the dawn into the day,
As lumps of sugar lose themselves, and twine
Their subtle essence with the soul of wine.
    Abraham Cowley (1618–1667)

Nothing requires a greater effort of thought than arguments to justify the rule of non-thought.

For there can be no whiter whiteness than this one:
An insurance man’s shirt on its morning run.

In the old days, one married a wife; now one forms a company with a female partner, or moves in to live with a friend. And then one seduces the partner, or defiles the friend.
    J. August Strindberg (1849–1912)
