Research and Knowledge Exchange
The Glasgow School of Art is host to a number of high profile research projects, funded primarily through the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the Economic and Social Research Council, although other UK research councils have funded projects in the past.
At the last Research Assessment Exercise in 2008, the GSA had the second largest art and design research community in the UK and with 25% of research evaluated as world leading and 25% as internationally excellent. The GSA has a number of research centres including Digital Design Studio, Mackintosh Environmental Architectural Research Institute, Design Innovation Studio, Centre for Advanced Textiles and the Glasgow Urban Lab
Research professors include Professor Thomas Joshua Cooper, Professor Alastair Macdonald, Professor Paul Anderson, Professor Roger Wilson, Dr Tim Sharpe, Professor Irene McAra-McWilliam, Professor Linda Drew, Professor Christopher Platt and Professor Brian Evans.
The School currently has two Fulbright Distinguished Chairs within the Mackintosh School of Architecture: Professor Ann Markusen and Professor Juliana Maantay.

Famous quotes containing the words research and, research, knowledge and/or exchange:
“To be sure, nothing is more important to the integrity of the universities ... than a rigorously enforced divorce from war- oriented research and all connected enterprises.”
—Hannah Arendt (19061975)
“The research on gender and morality shows that women and men looked at the world through very different moral frameworks. Men tend to think in terms of justice or absolute right and wrong, while women define morality through the filter of how relationships will be affected. Given these basic differences, why would men and women suddenly agree about disciplining children?”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
“A belief in hell and the knowledge that every ambition is doomed to frustration at the hands of a skeleton have never prevented the majority of human beings from behaving as though death were no more than an unfounded rumour.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
“I can exchange opinion with any neighbouring mind,
I have as healthy flesh and blood as any rhymers had,
But O! my Heart could bear no more when the upland caught the wind;
I ran, I ran, from my loves side because my Heart went mad.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
