Glasgow Airport Rail Link

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link (GARL) was a proposed rail link during the 2000s to directly link Glasgow Central station with Glasgow International Airport in Scotland. The link was intended for completion by 2013 and would have had a service of four trains per hour via Paisley Gilmour Street railway station.

On 17 September 2009 the rail link was cancelled as part of public spending cuts.

Famous quotes containing the words glasgow, airport, rail and/or link:

The attraction of horror is a mental, or even an intellectual, excitement, but the fascination of the repulsive, so noticeable in contemporary writing, can spring openly from some rotted substance within our civilization ...
    —Ellen Glasgow (1873–1945)

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)

We rail at trade, but the historian of the world will see that it was the principle of liberty; that it settled America, and destroyed feudalism, and made peace and keeps peace; that it will abolish slavery.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

To one who is accustomed to thinking a lot, every new thought that he hears or reads about immediately appears as a link in a chain.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
