Ghost Reveries - Background

Background

Ghost Reveries was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The album's artwork is by Travis Smith, who has contributed artwork to Opeth's previous releases. Ghost Reveries was released in Europe on August 29, 2005 and in North America on August 30, 2005 and peaked on the Billboard 200 at number 64. The album was ranked number 54 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the greatest 100 guitar albums of all time, number 9 on Metal Storm's list of top 100 progressive metal albums of all time, number 42 on Decibel's Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the Decade, one of Classic Rock‘s 10 essential progressive rock albums of the decade.

The album's lone single is "The Grand Conjuration". A music video of the song has been released, though about half the song was edited from the video due to the length of the song.

Some copies of Ghost Reveries were mastered using HDCD. Although it is unmarked, playing the album in a CD player able to decode HDCD will give superior sound quality.

Famous quotes containing the word background:

Silence is the universal refuge, the sequel to all dull discourses and all foolish acts, a balm to our every chagrin, as welcome after satiety as after disappointment; that background which the painter may not daub, be he master or bungler, and which, however awkward a figure we may have made in the foreground, remains ever our inviolable asylum, where no indignity can assail, no personality can disturb us.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... every experience in life enriches one’s background and should teach valuable lessons.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

In the true sense one’s native land, with its background of tradition, early impressions, reminiscences and other things dear to one, is not enough to make sensitive human beings feel at home.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)
