Ghat Roads

Ghat Roads are the name of the access routes into the mountainous Western and Eastern Ghats mountain ranges of the Indian Subcontinent. These roads are remarkable feats of engineering and most date back to British times. Ghat roads were built to connect to the famous Hill Stations of the Indian Subcontinent.

There are several roads in India which can be classed as Ghat Roads. The Nilgiri Ghat Roads of The Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, and the SH-156 (Tamil Nadu) to Kodaikanal hill station are such examples.

Famous quotes containing the word roads:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
