The 2012 U.S. News and World Report ranking of graduate programs in public affairs ranked GPPI in the 91st percentile of all programs in the nation at 23rd, tied with UCLA, University of Chicago, and UNC-Chapel Hill, among others. GPPI ranked first in the Washington area in the specialty area of public policy at 15th; GPPI also ranked 12th in health policy and 17th in social policy. GPPI is not ranked by the National Research Council because it does not have a doctoral program.
