George Van Hoomissen - Early Life

Early Life

George Van Hoomissen was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1930. His primary education was parochial, and he graduated from Central Catholic High School in Portland in 1947. He then went on to the University of Portland where he earned a bachelors degree in business in 1951. Van Hoomissen then joined the United States Marines and served in that branch during the Korean War. In the Marines he attained the rank of colonel. After serving in the armed forces he attended law school at Georgetown University School of Law where he earned a juris doctorate in 1955 and a LL.M in labor law in 1957. In 1986 he completed his education with an LL.M in judicial process from the University of Virginia School of Law.
