General Brock Elementary School - History

History

General Brock Elementary is made up of three buildings. The oldest, completed in 1908, is a wood frame structure which originally had students from grade 1 to grade 8 in the 8 classrooms. Initially the school was named "Mountain View" but 3 years later it was renamed General Brock Elementary. A second wood frame building was built in 1921 to hold the accelerating school population with another addition going up in 1923. In 1955 a third building made of concrete block was added. Notable alumni include Jimmy Pattison and Red Robinson.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Postmodernism is, almost by definition, a transitional cusp of social, cultural, economic and ideological history when modernism’s high-minded principles and preoccupations have ceased to function, but before they have been replaced with a totally new system of values. It represents a moment of suspension before the batteries are recharged for the new millennium, an acknowledgment that preceding the future is a strange and hybrid interregnum that might be called the last gasp of the past.
Gilbert Adair, British author, critic. Sunday Times: Books (London, April 21, 1991)

The history of literature—take the net result of Tiraboshi, Warton, or Schlegel,—is a sum of a very few ideas, and of very few original tales,—all the rest being variation of these.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
