Division of Powers
The PN also includes their own paramilitary wing, the Nigerien Internal Security Forces (Forces nigerienne d'internale securite- FNIS), which, with the GN, provides security for government officials and sites and control of large scale civil disorder. The FNIS also conducts military missions in time of armed conflicts, patrols borders, and is armed and trained in military fashion similar to the Internal Troops of the nations of the former Soviet Union. When the Police Nationale was moved to the Nigerien Interior Ministry in 2003, the FNIS fell under their jurisdiction, while the Gendarmerie remained under the Nigerien Ministry of Defense.

Famous quotes containing the words division of, division and/or powers:
“Between married persons, the cement of friendship is by the laws supposed so strong as to abolish all division of possessions: and has often, in reality, the force ascribed to it.
”
—David Hume (17111776)
“The division between the useful arts and the fine arts must not be understood in too absolute a manner. In the humblest work of the craftsmen, if art is there, there is a concern for beauty, through a kind of indirect repercussion that the requirements of the creativity of the spirit exercise upon the production of an object to serve human needs.”
—Jacques Maritain (18821973)
“Great abilites are not requisite for an Historian; for in historical composition, all the greatest powers of the human mind are quiescent. He has facts ready to his hand; so there is no exercise of invention. Imagination is not required in any degree; only about as much as is used in the lowest kinds of poetry. Some penetration, accuracy, and colouring, will fit a man for the task, if he can give the application which is necessary.”
—Samuel Johnson (17091784)
