Further Down The Spiral - "At The Heart of IT All" and "The Beauty of Being Numb"

"At The Heart of It All" and "The Beauty of Being Numb"

Aphex Twin's two contributions to Further Down the Spiral are not remixes but rather new works created specifically for the album. Aphex Twin is the performance moniker of British electronic musician Richard D. James, who was quoted as saying "I never heard the originals, I still haven't. I don't want to either, or my remixes for that matter." Both tracks would later appear in shortened form on Aphex Twin's 2003 compilation 26 Mixes for Cash. "At the Heart of It All" shares its name with a Coil piece from their 1984 LP Scatology.

Famous quotes containing the words heart, beauty and/or numb:

Royalty is a government in which the attention of the nation is concentrated on one person doing interesting actions. A Republic is a government in which that attention is divided between many, who are all doing uninteresting actions. Accordingly, so long as the human heart is strong and the human reason weak, Royalty will be strong because it appeals to diffused feeling, and Republics weak because they appeal to the understanding.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)

The beauty of the world ... has two edges, one of laughter, one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)

I ... toyed with the idea of going to find another war where I could at least feel alive. I was so numb that it took terror to make me feel anything.
Bess Jones, U.S. nurse. As quoted in the New York Times Magazine, p. 72 (November 7, 1993)
