Fox Primary School

Fox Primary School is a primary school for boys and girls of age 4 to 11 years, in the Kensington district of London. It is named after the Fox family formerly seated at Holland House in nearby Holland Park. Located in Edge Street, between Kensington Church Street and Notting Hill Gate, the school is housed in a purpose-built three-storey building dating from before 1950. It has a playground on each side.

Teachers at the school have included Ivor Cutler. It featured in the London Weekend Television documentary, Alive and Kicking - British Poets: Ivor Cutler and Friends.

Prior to the 1960s the school was infants only, aged 5 - 7. The Junior School was adjacent, a Church of England school called St George's School. St George's had no playground and shared the Fox School playgrounds. During the Second World War, pupils from the school were evacuated and taught at Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire.

Famous quotes containing the words fox, primary and/or school:

His berd as any sowe or fox was reed,
And therto brood, as though it were a spade.
Upon the cop right of his nose he hade
A werte, and theron stood a toft of herys
Reed as the brustles of a sowes erys.
His nosethirles blake were and wyde.
    Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?–1400)

Without the Constitution and the Union, we could not have attained the result; but even these, are not the primary cause of our great prosperity. There is something back of these, entwining itself more closely about the human heart. That something, is the principle of “Liberty to all”Mthe principle that clears the path for all—gives hope to all—and, by consequence, enterprize [sic], and industry to all.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

And so they have left us feeling tired and old.
They never cared for school anyway.
And they have left us with the things pinned on the bulletin board.
And the night, the endless, muggy night that is invading our school.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
