Football at the Bolivarian Games has been played since 1938. The first edition was the only one in which full national teams played for all countries. U-17 teams have been fielded recently in this quadrennial competition. A women's tournament played by full national teams was added in 2005.
Famous quotes containing the words football and/or games:
“In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Libertys torch. In football you run over somebodys face.”
—Donald Hall (b. 1928)
“In 1600 the specialization of games and pastimes did not extend beyond infancy; after the age of three or four it decreased and disappeared. From then on the child played the same games as the adult, either with other children or with adults. . . . Conversely, adults used to play games which today only children play.”
—Philippe Ariés (20th century)
