Flow Chemistry - Batch Vs. Flow

Batch Vs. Flow

Comparing parameters in Batch vs Flow:

  • Reaction stoichiometry. In batch production this is defined by the concentration of chemical reagents and their volumetric ratio. In Flow this is defined by the concentration of reagents and the ratio of their flow rate.
  • Residence time. In batch production this is determined by how long a vessel is held at a given temperature. In flow the volumemetric residence time is used given by the ratio of volume of the reactor and the overall flow rate, as most often, plug flow reactors are used.

Famous quotes containing the words batch and/or flow:

And so it goes, back and forth, good church-members all, which means that their banter contains nothing off-color, and by the same token, nothing that was coined later than the first batch of buffalo nickels.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

Opinionated writing is always the most difficult ... simply because it involves retaining in the cold morning-after crystal of the printed word the burning flow of molten feeling.
    Gavin Lyall (b. 1932)
