Florida State Road 882 - History

History

Originally, SR 882 was only 1.1-mile (1.8 km) long, existing only between Interstate 95 (SR 9) and US 1 (current SR 5). In the mid-1970s, Florida Department of Transportation designated it as a secondary state road, which, in most cases, would set into motion a sequence of events that would result in the transferral of Forest Hill Boulevard from State maintenance to Palm Beach County maintenance. At the time, FDOT "downgraded" all or part of dozens of State Roads throughout the state, but southern Florida was particularly affected.

Unlike most "tagged" State Roads, then-SR S-882 did not revert to county control in the 1980s. Instead, its status was upgraded (the "S" was dropped) and the designation was extended 8.4 miles (13.5 km) to the west, to its present terminus location.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

Considered in its entirety, psychoanalysis won’t do. It’s an end product, moreover, like a dinosaur or a zeppelin; no better theory can ever be erected on its ruins, which will remain for ever one of the saddest and strangest of all landmarks in the history of twentieth-century thought.
    Peter B. Medawar (1915–1987)

The history of work has been, in part, the history of the worker’s body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers’ intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.
    Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
