Fife Fire and Rescue Service - History

History

Fife Fire and Rescue Service was formed in 1985 from Fife Fire Brigade, however its creation was a result of the Fire Services Act 1947. The service operates as a whole and is not divided in to separate divisions as is the case with some fire services in the United Kingdom. FFRS provides fire cover to a large rural area; many stations are retained as there is no need to operate a fully staffed fire station in rural areas.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of this country was made largely by people who wanted to be left alone. Those who could not thrive when left to themselves never felt at ease in America.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)

The principal office of history I take to be this: to prevent virtuous actions from being forgotten, and that evil words and deeds should fear an infamous reputation with posterity.
    Tacitus (c. 55–c. 120)

Anything in history or nature that can be described as changing steadily can be seen as heading toward catastrophe.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
