Fielding Graduate University - The Fielding Learning Model

The Fielding Learning Model

The learning model utilized by Fielding is based on the principles of adult learning and designed to accommodate the needs, requirements and learning styles of midlife and mid-career professionals. The Fielding learning model combines theory with practice in a program that emphasizes academic understanding, research and writing skills and applied activities.

Students in each degree program learn through a mix of independent study and structured course work, learn peer to peer or collaboratively with faculty, utilize a range of learning modalities, including face-to-face and via distributed education systems in courses, seminars and electronic mail. Fielding offers flexibility for students to create their own learning roadmap and outstanding faculty who act as mentors throughout each student's learning process.

The elements of Fielding's learning model include a student learning plan, contract-based learning, competency-based assessment, student to student peer feedback, project and portfolio reviews, and final thesis or dissertation.

Famous quotes containing the words fielding, learning and/or model:

I made him a low curtsy and thanked him for the honor he intended me, but told him I had no kind of ambition to be his upper servant.... I then asked him how many offices he had allotted for me to perform for those great advantages he had offered me, of suffering me to humor him in all his whims and to receive meat, drink, and lodging at his hands; but hoped he would allow me some small wages, that I might now and then recreate myself with my fellow servants.
    —Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)

And hiving wisdom with each studious year,
In meditation dwelt, with learning wrought,
And shaped his weapon with an edge severe,
Sapping a solemn creed with solemn sneer.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

...that absolutely everything beloved and cherished of the bourgeoisie, the conservative, the cowardly, and the impotent—the State, family life, secular art and science—was consciously or unconsciously hostile to the religious idea, to the Church, whose innate tendency and permanent aim was the dissolution of all existing worldly orders, and the reconstitution of society after the model of the ideal, the communistic City of God.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)
