Sport
Ffynone has a tradition of extra-curricular sporting activities. Sports include table tennis, football, rugby, hockey, cross-country and gymnastics, taking place at lunch-times and after school. Fixtures against other schools, both independent and state schools, take place on a regular basis. In the area gymnastic competition, Ffynone pupils have won medals for the last three years in succession and been successful in the Afan Nedd Tawe Cross Country Competition as well as in hockey and swimming events.
A minority of students (although impressive for the schools overall size) gain honours at county, south Wales and National level every year. In the past pupils have made it to the Commonwealth Games.

Famous quotes containing the word sport:
“Rabelais, for instance, is intolerable; one chapter is better than a volume,it may be sport to him, but it is death to us. A mere humorist, indeed, is a most unhappy man; and his readers are most unhappy also.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“If a walker is indeed an individualist there is nowhere he cant go at dawn and not many places he cant go at noon. But just as it demeans life to live alongside a great river you can no longer swim in or drink from, to be crowded into safer areas and hours takes much of the gloss off walkingone sport you shouldnt have to reserve a time and a court for.”
—Edward Hoagland (b. 1932)
“Sweet Auburn, loveliest village of the plain,
Where health and plenty cheered the labouring swain,
Where smiling spring its earliest visit paid,
And parting summers lingering blooms delayed,
Dear lovely bowers of innocence and ease,
Seats of my youth, when every sport could please,
How often have I loitered oer the green,
Where humble happiness endeared each scene.”
—Oliver Goldsmith (1730?1774)
