Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport

Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport (ICAO: KFHB, FAA LID: FHB, formerly 55J) is a city-owned public-use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) south of the central business district of Fernandina Beach, a city in Nassau County, Florida, United States. It is designated as a reliever airport for Jacksonville International Airport.

Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport was developed as a training facility by the United States Navy during World War II, serving as Outlying Field Fernadina Beach (OLF Fernadina Beach) to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville complex. The airport was transferred to the City of Fernandina Beach in 1946 and is designated as a general aviation reliever airport for Jacksonville International Airport. It is occasionally used as a practice airfield by Navy helicopters from NAS Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport and by U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Army National Guard helicopters from Cecil Field.

Famous quotes containing the words beach, municipal and/or airport:

They will tell you tough stories of sharks all over the Cape, which I do not presume to doubt utterly,—how they will sometimes upset a boat, or tear it in pieces, to get at the man in it. I can easily believe in the undertow, but I have no doubt that one shark in a dozen years is enough to keep up the reputation of a beach a hundred miles long.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No sane local official who has hung up an empty stocking over the municipal fireplace, is going to shoot Santa Claus just before a hard Christmas.
    Alfred E. Smith (1873–1944)

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
