Fan Y Big

Fan y Big (or Fan y Bîg on Ordnance Survey maps) is a subsidiary summit of Waun Rydd in the Brecon Beacons National Park, in southern Powys, Wales. At 719m, Fan y Big lies at the western tip of the Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion plateau. Its name translates as 'peak of the bill' - perhaps in allusion to its striking pointed shape, as seen from some directions. The summit is bare and marked with a cairn, which stands on the edge of its precipitous western face. The view of this face from Cribyn is regarded as utterly striking.

It is often passed by walkers aiming for Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du and also forms part of the Fan dance

Famous quotes containing the words fan and/or big:

Hard times accounted in large part for the fact that the exposition was a financial disappointment in its first year, but Sally Rand and her fan dancers accomplished what applied science had failed to do, and the exposition closed in 1934 with a net profit, which was donated to participating cultural institutions, excluding Sally Rand.

Oppression does not make for hearts as big as all outdoors. Oppression makes us big and small. Expressive and silenced. Deep and dead.
