F. Wilbur Gingrich - Teaching

Teaching

After graduation from Lafayette College in 1923, Gingrich was hired by Schuylkill College, Reading, Pa. (an Evangelical Church institution) as an Assistant Professor, teaching Greek, Latin, German and the Bible. With the merger of the Evangelical Church and the United Evangelical Church in 1923, it was decided to merge Albright College at Myerstown with Schuylkill College. The merged institution became Albright College, located on the Schuylkill campus in Reading. Gingrich became Professor of Greek and head of the Classical Languages Department, a position he held until his retirement in 1972.

Famous quotes containing the word teaching:

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)

The most important part of teaching = to teach what it is to know.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)

... teaching to me was anathema, chiefly because it would condemn me to a world of petticoats.
    Agnes E. Meyer (1887–1970)
