Famous quotes containing the words living dead, escape, living and/or dead:

    You are done for—a living dead man—not when you stop loving but stop hating. Hatred preserves: in it, in its chemistry, resides the “mystery” of life. Not for nothing is hatred still the best tonic ever discovered, for which any organism, however feeble, has a tolerance.
    E.M. Cioran (b. 1911)

    At each minute we are crushed by the idea and the feeling of time. And there are only two ways to escape this nightmare, Mto forget it: pleasure and work. Pleasure wears us out. Work fortifies us. Let’s choose.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)

    A worm tells summer better than the clock,
    The slug’s a living calendar of days;
    What shall it tell me if a timeless insect
    Says the world wears away?
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

    Irrational streams of blood are staining earth;
    Empedocles has thrown all things about;
    Hector is dead and there’s a light in Troy;
    We that look on but laugh in tragic joy.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
