Famous quotes containing the words museum, picture, book and/or art:

One can think of life after the fish is in the canoe.
Hawaiian saying no. 23, ‘lelo No’Eau, collected, translated, and annotated by Mary Kawena Pukui, Bishop Museum Press, Hawaii (1983)

It is impossible for me to envisage a picture as being other than a window, and ... my first concern is then to know what it looks out on.
    André Breton (1896–1966)

A book should contain pure discoveries, glimpses of terra firma, though by shipwrecked mariners, and not the art of navigation by those who have never been out of sight of land. They must not yield wheat and potatoes, but must themselves be the unconstrained and natural harvest of their author’s lives.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Wealth is in applications of mind to nature; and the art of getting rich consists not in industry, much less in saving, but in a better order, in timeliness, in being at the right spot.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
