Empire High School - History

History

Empire opened to students in August 2005 and graduated its first class in 2007.

The current freshmen class, which is the class of 2016, received Apple MacBooks. Empire used HP netbook computers for one year during the 2010-2011 school year for most of the freshman and sophomore classes. As of the 2011-2012 school year, there are no longer HP netbooks being used, and all laptops are once again Apple MacBooks. EdgeWave (formerly St Bernard)'s iPrism filtering software has been installed for district liability purposes. The entire campus is furnished with wireless Internet. Each teacher has a blog specific to each class that is used to communicate with students and their parents to keep them up to date with what is going on in the classroom. Digital work is turned in electronically to Turnitin.com that will check for plagiarism and can be accessed by the teacher for grading.

Empire High School was named an "Apple Distinguished School" for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years.

In 2011 it was distinguished as an A+ school.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
