Emily Lau

Emily Lau

Emily Lau Wai-hing JP (Chinese:劉慧卿; born 21 January 1952, Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong politician. She was one of two vice-chairpersons of the Hong Kong Democratic Party from 2006 to 2012 and currently is acting chairperson of the party since 10 September 2012.

She was the convenor of The Frontier. She has been a full-time member of the Legislative Council (Legco) since 1991, elected from the geographical constituency of New Territories East.

Lau received the Bruno Kreisky Award for her human rights work in 1998.

After The Frontier was merged into the Democratic Party, Lau's earlier strident stance on the Beijing Government and opposition to pro-Beijing supporters is seen to have mellowed and, by some, even to have been compromised.
