Club Career
Born in Luanda, Edgar started playing professionally as a 16-year old, at Vitória de Setúbal. In 1995, he was snapped by Portuguese giants S.L. Benfica, being regularly used during his spell, but mainly from the bench. He also served a six-month loan at F.C. Alverca, then its feeder club, in the second division.
In the 1998 summer, Edgar was bought by Real Madrid, but never represented the La Liga powerhouse. He went on to spend the following eight years in the country, almost exclusively with Málaga CF - in 2002–03, he had a six-month loan spell with Getafe CF in the second level.
With the Andalusians, Edgar was a heavily-used offensive weapon; having partnered countryman Litos for five seasons, he appeared in more than 200 games in the league alone, helping the side to top flight promotion in his first year.
Edgar then returned to Portugal for 2007–08, in a disastrous campaign with Boavista FC: seven matches for the player, league relegation for the club (due to irregularities). He quickly moved abroad again, signing with Cyprus' Alki Larnaca FC, being released after one sole season, and retiring from football at the age of 31, after one year without a club.

Famous quotes containing the words club and/or career:
“The barriers of conventionality have been raised so high, and so strangely cemented by long existence, that the only hope of overthrowing them exists in the union of numbers linked together by common opinion and effort ... the united watchword of thousands would strike at the foundation of the false system and annihilate it.”
—Mme. Ellen Louise Demorest 18241898, U.S. womens magazine editor and womans club movement pioneer. Demorests Illustrated Monthly and Mirror of Fashions, p. 203 (January 1870)
“Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
