On October 23, 2011, Eden Park became the first ground to host two Rugby World Cup finals, after hosting the inaugural tournament final in 1987. Also, the four teams that reached the semi-finals in 2011 were the same teams that reached the semi-finals in 1987. Furthermore, the third-place and final matches consist of the same national teams as in 1987.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or cup:
“The essence of spirit, he thought to himself, was to choose the thing which did not better ones position but made it more perilous. That was why the world he knew was poor, for it insisted morality and caution were identical.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
“The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?”
—Bible: New Testament, 1 Corinthians 10:16.
